On June 5, 2019, it was time to give Dorothy Jean Birks to our Heavenly Father.
Jean was born to the late Elzenia Birks and the late Walter Vernon Brown on June 7, 1959 in Tallahatchie General Hospital, Charleston, MS. She was a native of Yalobusha County, Oakland, MS where her entire life was spent.
Jean was a 1976 graduate of Coffeeville High School. She also attended Alcorn State University and Rust College.
She accepted Christ at Parrish Grove M.B. Church. She later joined Carr's Chapel CME Church in 1987 and remained a member until death. She served as a Stewardness and Missionary President. She was member of the Women ministry at Philadelphia M.B. Church.
She departed this life on June 5, 2019 at Baptist Hospital East, Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Shemkaa Birks and Rotosha Sinkfield: Three Grandchildren; Jodeci Jenkins, Tatayanna Birks and Tyshenna Jenkins.
Dorothy leaves to cherish to her memories two loving daughters: Cherese Birks (Tim) Jenkins and Janet Birks (Tony) Harris: Three brothers: James Birks and Kenya Birks (whom she raised as her son) both of Oakland, MS and Jerome Birks (Diane) of Cascilla, MS. Five sisters: Vernette Clayborn-Wood (Donald Lee) and Rose Brown both of Chicago, IL, Tonya Brown of Memphis, TN, Lisa Perkins Harris and Lameshia Stinson Hankins (Danny) of Holy Springs, MS. One Aunt: Lee Genever Fullilove (James) of Charleston, MS.
Special friends: Dorothy Harris, Diane Brown and Brenda Faulkner, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
